Testimonials from grads

July 2006 grad Romeo Ripoli wrote:

The course provided me with the necessary tools to become a better lesson planner and instilled in me an appreciation for pre-planning in general. It also provided me with a heightened awareness of my own teaching abilities, including both my strengths and weaknesses, and made me much more conscious of my teaching technique and its resulting effect on my students.
Feedback was constructive and consistent, and the instructor passed on her extensive knowledge and experience in the teaching field very effectively and without intimidation.

The course has opened doors for me professionally that have never been opened before in all my years of teaching experience without a certificate. It's the perfect augmentation to my degree and work experience. Rather than being just a person with a degree looking for work in another country, I'm a person with a degree that is trained to work in ANY country. The program has provided me with a solid and respectable launching pad from which I was able to branch out from EFL to include the very real possibility of working in training and personal development programs abroad.

My time in the TEFL course at Archer was extremely fruitful and valuable. The materials were very informative and the instruction of the highest level. Archer not only covers the theoretical side and general mechanics of teaching, but also supplies students with a goody bag of creative and interesting teaching ideas. I have had conversations with other new teachers, who have obtained certification elsewhere; they do not seem to be as well prepared as I have been.
Laura and the other instructors create an open and fun environment. It was a pleasure to come to school everyday.

February 2006 grad Carol Topalian wrote:

I came to Archer in February 2006, as an experienced teacher. What impressed me immediately was the professionalism of the TESL programme instructors. Their expertise and experience shone through, and I was able to learn new techniques for classroom teaching. Having already spent nine years teaching and obtaining university degrees, I had been slightly skeptical that the TESL programme would be useful. Was it ever! I learned entertaining, practical ways to begin classes; my lesson plans became more focused and effective; I learned from other TESL and ESL students. In short, I became a better teacher. Thanks again to the excellent staff of Archer!

January 2006 grad Erica Dolsen wrote:

Archer College and its fantastic TEFL teachers provided specific insight into teaching ESL, and daily teaching practice in a professional and supportive environment. I wasn't sure that I needed to take a 'teacher training' program, (as I have worked as an educator in various other capacities) but I am absolutely glad that I did, as it gave me a good basis from which to start engaging in the actual learning-to-teach process which really happens in the classroom. The program was fun, challenging, active, applicable, and the results were quick..I was employed 3 weeks after graduation. Thank you Laura!

After 30 years in IT, it was time for a career change. Having read a couple of articles about ESL teaching, I decided to check out some Vancouver schools which offered a TESL programme. I chose Archer based on an interview with Laura Blumenthal just before Christmas, 2005. For 6 weeks starting in early January, Laura and Taslim (2 impressive pros) demonstrated the various aspects of ESL teaching and provided us with detailed feedback on several practice teaching sessions. Aside from Laura and Taslim, the best feature of the Archer TESL programme was the opportunity to practise ESL teaching - in a real ESL classroom - not with fellow TESL students, but with real ESL students (from various home countries) right at the College. This opportunity fueled my growing confidence. Within a month of graduating, I had received several job offers from Vancouver language schools. Within two months, I was working fulltime with a leading school here in town. I'm really happy that I made this career change and that I chose Archer to help me take the first steps in this direction. Thanks for everything, Laura and Taslim.

2005 grad Michelle Moller wrote:

I found out about the TEFL course at Winfield College from a friend. I needed to update my TEFL certificate, but I wasn't sure about going back to teaching. I wasn't sure if I was meant to be an ESL teacher.
Now, I am so thankful I completed the course! I have learnt techniques and methods that improved my teaching abilities and taught me far more than teaching for two years had. Furthermore, the methods my TEFL instructors used in class were fun and engaging. There was never a dull moment. My instructors also took teaching to the highest professional level. I never knew that teaching was such a thrilling and satisfying artform.

A big heartfelt thanks!

Gilian (Daytime program grad 2004) wrote:

I just wanted to write to say thank you. Everything I learned at Winfield helped me to become a better teacher, and really gave me confidence in what I do. To anyone who is considering teaching EFL, I'd highly recommend that they enroll at Winfield College. The training is intensive, the techniques are effective (especially if you little or no teaching experience), and the instructors are absolutely excellent. The whole experience is definitely worthwhile and rewarding.

Stan (Distance Education Grad 2004) wrote:

I would highly recommend this course. In short, it has helped me become much more aware of myself as a teacher, my students, and my teaching methods. My confidence level has increased significantly; as a result, I am feeling less stress and am having a lot more fun in the classroom.
