The
150-hour program consists
of two components. Students
must complete both of them
in order to be elgible for
TESL Canada certification,
but may take just the first
or need just the second.
To clarify ... |
| |
|
| + |
The first component, the
130-hour TEFL program, is
often sufficient to teach
in many other countries
around the world. Although
countries often have other
requirements for immigration
purposes or work permission,
this basic course will meet
most work place requirements
for teacher training. |
| |
|
| + |
The second component,
the extended practicum,
which may be taken in conjunction
with the first component,
may also be taken by experienced
instructors who have completed
a TEFL course at Archer
or elsewhere, but need to
complete a practicum for
TESL Canada certification.
The full extended practicum
can be completed on site
or off campus to meet the
needs of working teachers.
It is recognized by TESL
Canada as fulfilling the
requirements of their stand-alone
practicum. |

|
| |
The full-time 130-hour
certificate runs from Monday
to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00
pm, for four weeks. If you
are taking the extended
practicum at the same time,
another week will be added
to the end of your program.
Feel free to make use of
our computer lab, resource
room and photocopier should
you need a quiet space to
work. |

|
| |
This 130-hour TEFL Certificate
program is identical in
every respect to our full-time
program, however it is structured
so that students can complete
it while working full-time.
Note, however, that the
program is quite intensive
and requires a lot of study
and preparation time outside
of the class like the full-time
program. |
| |
|
| |
| + |
Classes
are held on Tuesday
and Thursday evenings,
from 6:00 to 9:30
pm.
|
| + |
Practice teaching
sessions will be held
on selected
Wednesdays
and Thursdays during
the final 6-7 weeks of
the program. Specific
dates and times will
be arranged during
class in week 4 or 5.
|
| + |
Program length is
14 weeks in total.
|
| + |
Students will also
be asked to observe
experienced teachers
in a Archer College's
daytime ESL classes
(mornings or afternoons).
We recommend that
you observe four classes,
but if you have other
time commitments,
the minimum you must
observe is two.
|
|
| |
NOTE:
If you are taking the extended
practicum at the same time,
you will be required to
.
. . . . . .* teach
more practicums, and
.
. . . . . .* do more
daytime observations. |
|
|
| |
This completes the necessary
hours of practicum and observation
that are necessary to meet
the TESL Canada requirements.
The practicum makes up the
full 20 hours needed for
the stand-alone practicum.
This is usually completed
as a fifth week directly
after the full-time program,
but may be completed based
on your availability or
schedule. |
